Linda Chapman, the associate artistic director for the famed New York Theater Workshop, visited the School of Drama to discuss creating a common language for directors to use among their community.

Around 40 graduate level directors, playwrights and designers gathered to hear Chapman speak at Purnell Center for the Arts. There she described her work in the New York theater community and particularly her involvement with NYTW and a sort of “secret club” of theater artists called The Usual Suspects.

She also spoke about the potential development of an NYTW hosted director’s symposium.

“The idea is developing a language in which directors can talk with each other about their work,” Chapman said.
