Christian Fleming is a freelance scenic and costume designer based in Manhattan.
After growing up in Wisconsin, I moved to the city to chase my “Broadway dream.” I am a designer who absolutely loves his job and everything that comes with it: the people I meet, the places I go, the hours I keep, and the spontaneity every production brings.
I create work that serves as a vehicle to profoundly impact the audience’s imagination. I am interested in adventurous work that illuminates new perspectives on iconic pieces and I am intrigued by imaginative work that is inherently theatrical, celebrating camp and spectacle, and by plays that seem “unproduceable” because they embrace the impossible. Finding creative solutions to “impossible” moments is part of the magic of design that excites me.
Recent work includes: RUSALKA (Pittsburgh Festival Opera); TURN OF THE SCREW (Carnegie Mellon) *performances canceled due to Covid-19; LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA (Carnegie Mellon); GAME ON! The Interactive Musical (Pittsburgh CLO); and AFTERWARDS: Mozart’s “Idomeneo” Re-imagined (Pittsburgh Opera).
