Hi! I’m Saran Bakari. I was born and raised in Washington, D.C. I’m a graduating senior at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama (Acting major/Dance concentration), where I received the Helen Wayne Rauh Excellence in Acting Award. I’ve spent my last three summers training and working as an actor in New York. This year, I spent a semester abroad at the Drama Centre in London.
I studied ballet, modern, tap and African dance since the age of three at the Jones-Haywood School of Dance. Dance led me to theatre. I attended Duke Ellington School of the Arts High School as an acting major, while continuing my dance training at Jones-Haywood. When I’m not working on my craft, I enjoy cooking, exercising and spending time with my family watching reruns of The Carol Burnett Show. Laughter is my life-blood! My favorite book is Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye . My favorite play is A Colored Museum by George C. Wolfe. As for film, definitely Love & Basketball.
I’m a fun-loving, easy-going spirit; but, I am a Leo, so…yeah.
