C. Todd Brown

Associate Teaching Professor of Lighting and Production Technology


Todd has been at the School of Drama since 2001, where he manages the lighting department and teaches lighting courses, primarily dealing with the technical and production side of the discipline.


Prior to coming to CMU he worked in many aspects of the entertainment industry including regional and commercial theater, industrial/corporate events, themed entertainment and large-scale touring productions. Highlights include stints as the Lighting Supervisor at La Jolla Playhouse, Production Manager for Coca-Cola Olympic City during the 1996 games in Atlanta, and four years as Lighting Director for Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey.

In addition to production work, Todd maintains an active career as a Lighting Designer. Examples of his design work have been seen at Lamb’s Players’ Theatre, City Theatre, The West Virginia Public Theatre and many other organizations. He is currently the resident lighting designer for Pittsburgh’s Quantum Theatre, having designed more than 20 shows for them, including several world premiere productions.
