Bio:
Isabella was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas where she grew up eating the best food in the country, going to the river, and spending time singing Bill Withers on her karaoke machine. She was introduced to theater when she was fifteen, when as a sophomore she wasn’t allowed to audition for her musical, she became adamant on learning in the room. She did anything she could, from making props to working deck crew, to understudying and assistant directing, until, with pure luck, (and the expulsion of a student) she was asked to join the show the day of opening. She learned all the dances from “Dance at the Gym” to “America” in four hours. It was magical.
Isabella’s time at CMU has shifted between very different textures of characters. From loyal and spunky characters like Beatrice in Much Ado, Tania in Native Gardens or Dot in Sunday in the Park with George, to the emotional Kayleen in Gruesome Playground Injuries, she is up for any challenge. This year she has also began her journey through directing and writing. Her first piece, a one act, based off of the novel Crime and Punishment, called “Miami Boyyyzzz”, was about navigating pride and temptation within Latin environments. This led her to her next project where she will be directing and acting in “Simonas Search” as a capstone to her time at CMU. She hopes to continue to advocate for latiné voices and lead rooms one day as well.
Aside from theater, Isabella also loves anthropology, animal care, hiking and reading. Her favorite books are swinging between Bernadine Evaristos “Girl, Woman, Other ” and chef Bourdain’s “Kitchen Confidential”. But both are fuego. She loves her family with her whole being and can’t thank anything else but a touch of serendipity and the gifts of God for giving her this opportunity! Thanks!
