Actor/Singer/Dancer
Class of 2023
(he/him)

Bio:

Steven Taylor Jr. was born in Indianapolis Indiana, and he was always a performer at heart. His parents say that he was brought into this world dancing, giving him the nickname “Boogie.” Around the house you could find him studying the dancing, vocals, and straight up swag found in his favorite Michael Jackson Compilation DVD. At 4 years old his dad would make a choice that would alter the lives of his family in more ways than he could ever know. Leading with his heart, his dad packed up his whole family and moved them to New York to pursue a career in acting. In the city Steven would be exposed to all kinds of theatre and people, gathering inspiration from anything he could get his hands on. Eventually the acting bug bit him, and he became determined to spread his soul through performing, and to boogie all over any stage he could find.

Steven is proud to be a black individual, and dreams of inspiring equity through his art. In the past he’s been drawn to stories that leave him and audiences changed at the core. He has played empathetic and romantic roles like Tom Collins in RENT, or Prince Andrey in the Great Comet of 1812. Recently he has also found a love for physically comedic roles like Andrey’s father in the Great Comet, ‘Prince Bolkonsky’. His favorite role he’s played however was Phebe in As You Like It. It gave him the opportunity be a clown, a person who is desired, and overall just discover a different and looser side of himself.

As a person with a short attention span, he is a novice at many skills. When he’s not performing he can be found writing poetry, researching astrology, and playing ukulele. Badly. A Libra, he has a passion for fashion as well as a passion for the Law School murder mystery; How to Get Away with Murder. If he was an animal, he would be a mix between a peacock and St. Bernard dog.
