Bio:

Wendy Kuhn is a dramaturg, playwright, and director originally from the Austin, Texas area. They transferred into Carnegie Mellon’s dramaturgy program after attending Texas State University, studying playwriting under the mentorship of Caitlin Turnage.

During their time at CMU, Wendy has assisted Eliza Hallinan, BFA Dramaturgy program alumnus, on Love and Information by Caryl Churchill, directed by MFA Directing alumnus Rebecca Wahls as well as acted as the lead dramaturg on Dance Nation by Clare Barron, directed by current MFA Directing candidate Jasmine Roth. Wendy also had the opportunity to work with Jasmine on developing their original new work, Painting Lessons, as part of Pittsburgh’s New Hazlett Theater 2022/2023 Community Supported Art program. Wendy spent the summer of 2023 in Chicago, doing field research for their Senior Capstone production of Sender by Ike Holter and exploring the city’s theatre scene.

Outside of their dramaturgy work, Wendy also pursues playwriting. An ongoing project of theirs is adapting the Magnetic Field’s iconic 1999 album 69 Love Songs into a three-act queer fantasia. This piece was workshopped in January of 2022 with funding from the Frank-Ratchye Studio for Creative Inquiry. Other theatrical writing explores themes of Mormonism, queer sexual dynamics, mental illness in the 21st century, gender dysphoria, and cowboys.

In addition to theatre, Wendy enjoys spatchcocking whole chickens in record time, providing for their unemployed cat, and working as a barista, cultivating an appreciation for both coffee and community.
