Paul Peers

Adjunct Faculty, The John Wells Directing Program


Paul has a passion for contemporary opera, and feels that this 450-year-old art form is still very relevant today.


Paul is a stage director and producer whose work spans theatre, music-theatre and opera. Most recently Paul was Producing Director for UrbanArias a contemporary opera company based in Arlington, Virginia that commissions, presents and produces modern one act opera works in the Washington DC area. Also, for UrbanArias, Paul line-produced three opera-films The Roost, Uknown and DWB (Driving While Black) the latter being presented during Opera Philadelphia’s Opera on Film Series in 2022. Paul was a HERE Arts resident artist in New York City, where he wrote, directed and co-produced Mata Hari a chamber opera fusing physical theatre, sung/spoken word and video design into hybrid performance work. Paul has directed internationally in Australia, Canada, Germany and France. He has directed for North American regional opera companies; Vancouver Opera, Utah Opera, Boston Baroque, Hawai’i Opera Theatre, Opera Lafayette, West Edge Opera, and Baltimore Choral Arts Society.
