Actor/Singer/Dancer
Class of 2022
(she/her)

Bio:

Ava Egertson is an actor, singer, and dancer from Bloomington, Minnesota. After training as a USAG competitive gymnast for 11 years, Ava fell into the world of performing and artistry by chance when she stumbled upon an audition posting her freshman year. A hobby of performing turned into a full-blown passion and since then she has been lucky to work all around Minneapolis/Saint Paul, including: Children’s Theatre Company, Youth Performance Company, Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists, Penumbra Theatre, LABRADOR, Lab Theatre, Phoenix Theatre and others.

Apart from acting, Ava founded Broken Ivy Theatre (BIT), a self-funded, youth led theatre company in 2017. Through this, her love for directing and choreographing began and she continues to find the excitement for this kind of creation in her future. Some of her favorite projects include choreographing “Preludes” at Carnegie Mellon University under the direction of Moses Garcia, along with developing new work through CMU’s Playground Festival – directing the political dramedy “Milk and Honey” and choreographing “Spanglish Sh!t”, a bilingual rap musical. Additionally, she wrote and developed works such as “Don’t Fence Me In”, a choreopoem on her experiences as a biracial woman, and “B”, a dance piece in reflection of her experience living in Minneapolis during the 2020 revolution and murder of George Floyd.

In her downtime, you can guarantee she is either working as a barista, drinking chocolate milk, obsessing over any competition Reality TV show, or surrounded by her friends.

Ava’s time at Carnegie Mellon has emphasized what it means to bring your authentic, unfiltered spirit to the craft. Truth, identity, curiosity, and ownership of self are at the forefront of her work.
