Bee Anderson

Stage & Production Manager
Class of 2024
(they/them)

Bio:

Bee Anderson grew up in New York’s Southern Tier region. They grew up doing theatre in grade school and with their local community theatre. First gracing the stage in the ensemble of Mulan Jr. and then playing Duffy in Annie Jr., they decided that acting wasn’t for them. They quickly transitioned into working backstage while switching between being on stage, lighting, and sound crews until they eventually found their way to stage management.

Bee graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 2019 with a B.A. having majored in both Theatre and French. During their time in undergrad, Bee worked with as a stage manager with both the theatre department and student run organizations. Bee was also a member of the National Theatre Honors Society – Alpha Psi Omega and the National French Honor Society – Pi Delta Phi.

Following graduation, Bee decided to look for opportunities to work professionally and was invited to apply for a Company Management Apprentice position at Northern Stage, a LORT D Theatre in White River Junction, VT. During their apprenticeship at Northern Stage, Bee strongly missed working in a rehearsal environment as part of a stage management team. Bee spoke up about this and was able to find some opportunities to work on the education team as an ASM while at Northern Stage in addition to their apprenticeship duties. This was also the time that they decided to apply to graduate school, not knowing the COVID-19 pandemic was on the horizon. In March of 2020, their employment was terminated at Northern Stage due to the pandemic and they started preparing for their graduate school experience at Carnegie Mellon.

While at CMU, Bee has worked closely with their advisors to gain feedback on their performance as a stage manager and ameliorate their skills. They are looking forward to working at Pittsburgh Opera this semester as an ASM while they finish working on editing their thesis.
