Emily Brunner

Sound Designer
Class of 2023
(she/her)

Bio:

Emily Brunner (she/her) is a sound designer and composer from Northern Virginia based in Pittsburgh. She is currently a Senior studying Sound Design and Sonic Arts at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama. Her passion for audio first started with music. Between the ages of 6 to 16, she studied classical piano (playing more Debussy than any other student) and then studied composition theory for two more years before starting at Carnegie Mellon. She gained an interest in theater during her senior year of high school, thanks in part to her sister (we love our stage managers), and has never looked back.

She has since worked as a Sound Engineer, Sound Designer, and Mixer on several shows at Carnegie Mellon. She has broadened her skillset by helping student films and taking classes in the CMUs School of Music. She recently has interned at WQED-FM, Pittsburgh’s premiere classical music station, by interviewing and editing interviews for podcasts, gaining a love for Public Radio, and a desire to continue to tell people’s stories. She hopes one day to work on a Marvel film, but a decent-paying job would be nice too.

When she is not working, Emily likes to watch sports (go Pens!), read books, bake with her family, and watch Downton Abbey reruns with her boyfriend.
