Bio:

Grzegorz Łabuda is a multidisciplinary artist, costume designer, and actor who explores the relationship between theatre and the visual arts, emerging as a designer and performer. In his work, he emphasizes the performative aspect of the costume. He focuses on using sustainable methods of creation and unconventional materials in order to create costumes that speak for themselves. While working on performances, he not only designs costumes, but also creates them. His work includes mostly original plays, immersive theatre, site-specific events and installations. He designed among others for the Living Space Theatre (“Jesus Christ, Refugee!”,” Ferdydurke”, “Cockroaches”), Quantum Theatre (”Devil is a Lie”, “Flying Lovers of Vitebsk”)  and many others. He collaborated with artists and theaters in Europe and the USA including BWA Contemporary Art Gallery (Poland), Soharóza Choir and Fruzsina Nagy (Hungary), Theatre no Theatre (Italy), and The Actors’ Ensemble (New York). He was a scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for outstanding artistic achievements, as well as the winner of the main prize for an open space visual installation at the BWA Contemporary Art Gallery in Katowice. In 2021 he received a Fulbright Scholarship for graduate students. In 2022, he was recognized as a Student Ambassador by The United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) and in 2023 he was selected to present his work during Prague Quadrennial – an International Festival of Performance Design and Space. He was recognized by Princess Grace Foundation with honorary award in costume design in 2023.
