Bio:

Izadorius is a stage director and writer from Chicago, Illinois. After dipping his toes into all aspects of theater, from acting to design to management, he found that directing was the best use for his curiosity into the full scope of theatrical production. During his time in Chicago he worked with over 20 theater companies including Goodman Theater, Prop Thtr, and the Athenaeum. His first directing experiences were in the world of 24-hour theater festivals at various companies including Mudlark Theater, Theater Above the Law, and BYOT Productions. He still partakes in these as they are great opportunities to practice and try out new directorial methods and ideas.

During his time in the directing program at CMU, Izadorius assisted director Rebecca Wahls on her production of Love and Information by Caryl Churchill, where he led his own secondary rehearsal room to drill into detailed work on the multitude of little scenes in the play. He also assisted Tome Cousin on the regional premiere of Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812. During this production he kept a Stagewrite Document so he could keep the performers honest to the production through the tech process. In addition to his CMU-affiliated work, he spent a year developing and workshopping a 3 act musical adaptation of the album 69 Love Songs by The Magnetic Fields. In support of this workshop he received a grant from the Frank-Ratchye Studio for Creative inquiry as well as workshopping rights from the band. In his Capstone production of Sender by Ike Holter, Izadorius investigates the tension between the freedom of youthfulness and the responsibility of adulthood in a world where the future is unknowable.

Izadorius spent a semester in New York City taking classes with successful directors and playwrights including Jonathan Silverstein, Artistic Director of Keen Company and Jack Moore, the Associate Director of New Work Development at Public Theatre. During his time in NYC, he interned for Red Bull Theater and Vineyard Theatre. At Red Bull he assisted Jesse Berger on his production of Arden of Faversham. At Vineyard he produced script coverage for Literary Manager, Miriam Weiner. When he wasn’t in class or at an internship, he spent his time getting to know the Seagulls of Rockaway Beach where he was staying for the semester.

As somebody who invests most of his free time in communities that have little involvement in theater, Izadorius strives to make theater that is relatable and able to connect with anyone, not just those who are accustomed to or inclined to like theater. In other words, he wants to create work that his sister would like. He is interested in queer joy, queer power, working class, and genre heavy work. As he works from the text to excavate a unique world for each production, he aims to find hope for this world’s future.
