Stage and Production Manager
Class of 2021
JuanCarlos Contreras is an AEA stage manager. He has experience working on small scale, intimate plays, full scale musicals, and children’s theatre.
JuanCarlos grew up in California and had his first exposure to theatre in high school. He was hooked from then on out. He completed his undergraduate degree in Theatre, Film, and Dance with an emphasis in stage management at Humboldt State University nestled in the redwoods and along the coast of Northern California. After graduation, he worked locally in community theatre while also travelling over the summer to work regionally. While working at the community level he spent a lot of time mentoring and training new stage managers in the Humboldt area. After a few years under his belt, he decided it was time to expand his horizons out of California and expand his education at Carnegie Mellon University where he is pursuing his MFA in Stage & Production Management.
Outside of being a leader in the rehearsal room, JuanCarlos can be found baking bread, cookies, or cakes for friends, or out hiking through any nearby forest.
