Bio:

Yafei Hu is a scenic designer whose interests spanned theater, opera, dance, immersive experience, events and television. She is currently in her third year of the MFA program in Scenic Design at Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama. 

Yafei has always been interested in art, especially theater art since young. She started frequenting theater as an actor in middle school and received her undergraduate education in L’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera (Academy of Fine Art of Brera) in Milan, Italy. The years in Italy gave her systematic training in the skills of scenic design, and the art and cultural atmosphere in Milan also gave her an open-minded and international perspective. 

During her MFA study, she has had the opportunity to work on different subjects including opera and play; at the same time, she kept on exploring the design of musical, play, concert, and television projects. 

Besides being a good storyteller, she also has a lot of passion for polishing her skills. Except for the required skills of model building, CAD drafting (2D and 3D), hand drawing and painting, and storyboarding. She is also an active explorer of digital tools – she has proficiency in the use of Blender, Unreal Engine, and has also explored XR, which she believes will expand the possibilities of theater and entertainment and the procedure of making it. During her spare time, she reads a lot to expand her understanding of the world, at the same time she also benefits from hiking which keeps her mind active.

Yafei Hu is a designer who is open to different kinds of opportunities and is willing to surf diverse locations and cultural backgrounds, she is ready to expand her career at any moment.
