Effective Monday, Nov. 1, and for the second year in a row, the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama within the College of Fine Arts will be offering virtual-only auditions and interviews for our undergraduate programs (Acting, Music Theater, Directing, Design/Production, Dramaturgy) for Fall 2022 admission.  CMU is one of the first conservatory training programs to lead the collegiate industry in moving to fully virtual auditions. Most peer institutions at this time are asking for preferred in-person auditions with remote auditioning as an option.

The decision to conduct virtual auditions is for two primary reasons:

  1. Although Carnegie Mellon University and the School of Drama, in particular, follow strict protocols related to the COVID-19 pandemic, we believe the safety and well-being of our campus community and prospective students must remain a top priority. Taking extra precautions is what we believe to be our best course of action for all involved.
  2. Virtual auditions allow our school to provide greater access to auditions/interviews among prospective students across the United States and around the world, helping to ensure a more equitable process for all applicants.

Auditions/interviews are operated via GetAcceptd’s AuditionRoom following a successful pre-screen application. The pre-screening application is due by December 1 and can be accessed through this link: https://app.getacceptd.com/cmudrama

Directing interviews will occur on January 22 and 23. Design/Production interviews will occur on Fridays and Saturdays in January and February with specific dates posted in mid-December. Acting and Music Theater auditions will begin in January and advance by continued invitation throughout January and February. A movement audition will take place in February for Music Theater candidates. Specific Acting and Music Theater dates are available through our Acceptd portal after a successful pre-screening application.

Any changes to this schedule will be published on the School of Drama website
